Deborah-Nicolle Ciuraru
Born in: Bukarest, Rumania
State Ballet School Berlin: 2017-2024
Deborah-Nicolle Ciuraru was discovered by Gregor Seyffert during a competition in Romania in 2017 at the age of 12 and he invited her to come to the State Ballet School in Berlin. She initially came to the State Ballet School just for a month to see whether she liked the school and the boarding school and whether it was right for her – and then decided to join the school.
One of the best things about her entire time at school was this huge family that she suddenly found here: living in the boarding school was like suddenly having a huge group of sisters and brothers who were all there for each other and with whom you could have all kinds of fun.
An other one of the most important things that she takes away from her time here is the ability to have learned to be independent and to stand steady on her own two feet. In the beginning, this was anything but easy, but now it is something that she has acquired and something she likes about herself. And she also appreciates the freedom that comes from it.
One the most important things of her time at the Berlin State Ballet School was the collaboration with Arshak Ghalumyan: it was the opportunity to learn and experience what it is like and how it can be to work with a professional choreographer. Throughout the entire rehearsal and work process, he repeatedly asked the dancers whether something would work for them or if they had even maybe another idea. This was a special glimpse into what life and work might look like in the future as professional dancers .
In the 2024/25 season, Deborah is dancing in the Junior Company of Elephant in the Black Box in Pau, France.
