Paulina Blum
Born in: Bad Oldesloe, Germany
State Ballet School Berlin: 2015-2024
Paulina Blum had been dancing at the Vogl dance school in Berlin since she was in kindergarten – and one of her teachers at the time recommended that she take the entrance exam for the State Ballet School Berlin. After some short and careful consideration, Paulina decided to take the entrance exam, was accepted and went to the 5th grade of the school and boarding school in 2015.
The first four years in particular were beautiful and intense: coming to class every morning, learning something new every day and being challenged and pushed by her teachers – Paulina remembers this time as a really something special and beautiful.
Other highlights for Paulina were always the performances, especially the performances together with the Staatsballett Berlin in The Nutcracker and La Bayadère. Rehearsing together with the dancers of Staatsballett and then being able to stand on stage evening after evening is a part of Paulina’s most beautiful and happiest memories. But also the trips to other performances, such as dancing the Bolero in Leipzig, or to the gala in Putbus, where Paulina was dancing Myrtha from Giselle, are also a big part of those memories.
But it wasn’t just the performances, it was everything that led there: in particular the rehearsals for the 2023 gala and especially the work on the piece Encounter with Arshak Ghalumyan, during which Paulina often spent several very intensive hours with her class- and schoolmates in the school’s theater and rehearsal rooms, remain something very special moments that are forever etched in her memory.
After graduating, Paulina is dancing at the Staatsballett Berlin in the current 2024/25 season.
